Introduction to Hobo's Hideaway
Hobo's Hideaway has been designed to tow behind my trike. Could it be towed by a motorcycle, but I would not advise it. With a empty weight of 460 lb., this trailer is too heavy to be towed by anything lighter than 1000 b. It is 7 ft long and 44 inches tall. The width is 45 inches, the most I could comfortably tow behind a trike. The trailer was also designed for my minimalist style of camping. I tend to travel alone and ride 300-400 miles a day. I normally only stay for one night and the next day... it starts all over again. Having towed campers before, I have had a ton of time to think of what I really wanted in a trailer.
To help insure the end product would meet all my needs, I used Fusion 360 to draw up my initial ideas. This also provided me with the ability to estimate total weight and the placement of the axle. The following posts will help document my design choices and the resulting construction methods.
