03 - The Cubby
I did not want to add a hatch like a normal teardrop style camera. The main reason for this is the style of camping I enjoy. Also, the shorter length of this camper does not allow for the foot board storage area in the back. Therefore, a cubby would be very small and awkardly set inboard.
Mounting the cubby provides a pretty solid cross truss to support the sides of the camper.
I wrapped the cubby in lightweight carpet and 3D printed some electrical components. This design had several problems, the first one was a nets ended up being too short to be effective. I replaced them with larger/heaver nets. However, The nets quickly broke having to take them on and off the retaining pin. Another problem was this design did not provide enough angle to drain the air conditioner. In general, the air conditioner needs to be placed on a 5 degree slant to the rear to effectivly drain.
